Parenting Support for First Time Parents

Are you anxious or worried about having a baby? If you are pregnant or have a baby under 6 months old, and live in Vancouver, we can help.

The Building Blocks Vancouver program helps first-time parents who experience medium to low risk factors and don’t have other local support. You can get support and guidance from Family Support Home Visitors in consultation with Nurse and Social worker Consultants.

We can:

  • Help lower isolation
  • Monitor your baby’s developmental stages
  • Promote healthy parent-child relationships
  • Answer your parenting questions
  • Refer and accompany you to supports and appointments
  • Help you through new parent struggles
  • Visit you in your home

Eligibility

This program is for parents or caregivers who:

  • First-time parents
  • Live in the Vancouver area

  • Pregnant or have a child under 6 months old

  • Struggle with parenting

Program Description

Being a new parent can be hard. We are here to help.

Join the Building Blocks Vancouver program to get parenting support and resources, including:

  • Help monitor early childhood development and milestones
  • Nutritional recommendations for baby and mom
  • Providing companionship and parenting support
  • Support for breastfeeding, bottle feeding, and starting solid foods
  • Help to understand baby’s communication
  • Resources for healthy families
  • Support for finding daycare, preschools, and kindergarten

This program is available in: 廣東話 (Cantonese), English, हिन्दी (Hindi), Tagalog, Vit Ng (Vietnamese), اُردو (Urdu), 한국어 (Korean), Español (Spanish), ਪੰਜਾਬੀ (Punjabi), Tamil, and 中文 (Mandarin). 

We are here to answer your questions and help you feel confident as a new parent.

Do you live in Burnaby or New Westminster?

If you have a Refugee Status, we have more support options for you. Learn more about our Family Centre in Burnaby.

Do you also speak Korean or Vietnamese?

You can also join the Community Action Program where your children can play, and you get cultural-specific support.

FAQ

Do you have a waitlist?

Yes. Currently, it is approximately 4-6 months.

Can I join your program if I live in Richmond?

Unfortunately, the Building Blocks Vancouver program only serves families who live in the City of Vancouver.

Is there a Building Blocks Vancouver program in other cities?

We have yet to be aware of a similar home visitation program focusing on early childhood development and parenting in cities outside Vancouver.

Can I enroll in your program if I have a one-year-old child?

The Building Blocks Vancouver program can accept referrals for first-time parents in their third trimester until their first child turns six months old.
