On April 9, 2019, approximately 2,250 job seekers sought interviews with recruiters at MOSAIC’s 8th Annual Career & Job Fair at the Croatian Cultural Centre in Vancouver.
More than 200 recruiters were on site representing 75 companies which included sectors such as: business and finance, tech and sciences, service industries, government and community, hospitality and entertainment, and manufacturing and trades.
It was the first time that Hays Recruitment has participated and they commented that they were very impressed with the turnout as well as the calibre and diversity of participants, sharing mid-way through the day that “we’ve met so many great candidates and already sent batches of resumes to our office for follow-up.”
MOSAIC Employment Services Manager Shirin Karmali said staff were uncertain about what the turnout would be this year. “Given the existing labour market, which is seeing the lowest unemployment rate in over 40 years, we’re thrilled with the number of job seekers who came out, and employers also mentioned how pleased they were with the attendance. We’ve already heard from additional employers who have expressed interest in participating in the future events.”
Maria Poe, event coordinator, expressed appreciation for the efforts of staff and volunteers, saying “it takes enormous manpower to host the job fair and our team worked really hard to pull it all together. This event wouldn’t have been executed as well without the support of 26 MOSAIC volunteers who filled all the gaps that made this a great experience for both job seekers and employers. A huge shout-out and thanks to all the staff and volunteers who helped make our 2019 job fair such a big success.”
