Over 300 attended MOSAIC’s 2019 Immigrant Professionals Conference on October 19, which focused on “leadership”. The annual event took place at the Metrotown Hilton Hotel in Burnaby.
BC Ministers Bruce Ralston and Harry Bains helped welcome delegates with Labour Minister Bains sharing personal experiences from his journey as a newcomer to Canada, while Jobs, Trade and Technology Minister Ralston told the assembly that the BC Government “needs immigrants, wants immigrants and welcomes immigrants”.

This was an amazing event. I learned lots and it was very inspiring
The keynote speech from Coquitlam city councillor, entrepreneur and author Trish Mandewo enraptured the audience with her powerful presentation about “power”, and the steps to attain or regain it. Group Plenary Session speaker and HR expert Lewisa Anciano had delegates laughing and buzzing with interactive exercises for self-exploration in order to better understand and develop personal leadership styles.
Other speakers during the morning included Paul Holden, President of Burnaby’s Board of Trade, and addresses from sponsors RBC and WorkSafe BC.
The afternoon breakout sessions were led by Nadine Stille (Unleash your Amazingness), Sweta Rajan (Curious-Listening in Value-Based Leadership) and Matt Musselman (Mastering Leadership Culture in Canada).
Concluding the conference was the Employers’ Panel, where organizational leaders discussed leadership topics and answered questions from delegates. Panel participants were: Lisa Campardo (RBC Royal Bank of Canada), Gabriel Avelar (United Way of the Lower Mainland), Enna Aujla (Remedy’s RX Specialty Pharmacy) and Jennie Deneka (Pacific Reach Seniors Housing Management).
