Engaging presenters captivate participants at 2018 MOSAIC Immigrant Professionals Conference

October 2, 2018

The 2018 MOSAIC Immigrant Professionals Conference was held at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown on Sept. 29. Thank you to the approximately 300 attendees – our staff, volunteers, speakers, participants and exhibitors – as well as sponsors RBC Royal Bank, British Council IELTS and Shaw Multicultural Channel for creating an exciting conference. We are very proud of the energy and experience we created together.

MOSAIC CEO Olga Stachova opened the conference, followed by Bruce Ralston, Minister of Jobs, Trade, and Technology, who provided welcoming remarks on behalf the province of British Columbia.

Keynote speaker Alden E. Habacon gave a dynamic and powerful presentation. He inspired participants through his personal stories, touched on the power of networking, and focused on the importance of soft skills during job interviews. He also challenged participants to look inward, to identify the things that cause us to miss our targets, and to recognize when these are affecting us.

Kimberley Rawes, a Career Educator at the University of British Columbia, led an interactive group plenary session which involved several networking activities. In the afternoon, participants had three breakout sessions to choose from: “Becoming an Emotionally Intelligent Leader” with Constance Lynn Hummel, “Personal Branding for a Thriving Career” with Iris Cai, and “Empower Your Career with Design Thinking” with Kaishin Chu.

The last session of the day was an Employer Panel Discussion featuring Shari Wallace (Chief Information Officer, City of Burnaby), Wael Hussein (Human Resources Manager, MOSAIC), Harbinder Mann (Employment Specialist, City of Surrey) and Cristina Mejia (Assistant Branch Manager, RBC).

“It is amazing to see the growth of this conference over the years,” stated Larry Chan, MOSAIC’s Senior Manager of Employment Programs. “MOSAIC is thrilled at the quality of presenters we are able to attract, and proud of the positive impact our conference has on hundreds of immigrant professionals every year”.
