For over a decade, Purdys Chocolatier has worked closely with MOSAIC to open meaningful pathways for newcomers building their careers in Canada. Through job fairs, hiring events, and direct participation in employment programs, Purdys Chocolatier has shown a deep, ongoing commitment to equity in hiring and community connection. This year, we are proud to recognize that dedication by presenting Purdys Chocolatier with the 2025 MOSAIC Employer Recognition Award.
The relationship began at MOSAIC’s annual job fairs and WorkBC hiring events, where Purdys Chocolatier consistently took part—not just to hire, but to connect with job seekers with genuine interest and openness. Over time, the partnership has grown. In recent years, Purdys Chocolatier’s People & Culture team has taken a more active role in programs like WorkXP, where they hosted interns, and Next Steps where they served as Employer Panelists. They have also welcomed multiple candidates referred through MOSAIC’s employment readiness initiatives.
“We are incredibly honoured to receive MOSAIC’s 2025 Employer Recognition Award,” says Jennifer Ottenbreit, P&C Coordinator at Purdys Chocolatier. “It reinforces our belief that supporting newcomers is not only the right thing to do—it also strengthens our team and our community.”
Throughout the year, MOSAIC staff frequently refer clients to Purdys because of the overwhelmingly positive experiences reported by those who’ve worked there. Whether on the production floor or in customer service, employees describe a workplace where they are welcomed, respected, and given the opportunity to thrive.
Programs like Fast Track to Manufacturing Plus prepare job seekers with relevant skills and knowledge, while WorkXP offers on-the-job experience in a supportive setting. These initiatives have helped Purdys meet workforce needs efficiently, introducing new perspectives into their teams.
“Candidates referred by MOSAIC consistently demonstrate a strong work ethic, reliability, and a willingness to learn. Many bring valuable international experience and a fresh perspective that enhances our team’s creativity and problem-solving,” Jennifer adds. “We’ve also noticed a shared sense of gratitude and dedication that adds a special energy to our workplace.”
One of those candidates is Victoria, a newcomer from Ukraine. After arriving in Canada in early 2024 with experience in social services and administration, she connected with MOSAIC’s employment programs and was soon matched with a seasonal role in Purdys Chocolatier’s ecommerce department.
“It was fast-paced and challenging,” she recalls, “but the managers and team were incredibly supportive, which made the job easier. Our team was multinational, and we celebrated major holidays from different countries right in the office. It was a wonderful way to learn about each other’s cultures, share traditions, and build a stronger, more united team.”
While the position was temporary, it helped Victoria gain valuable Canadian work experience and reconnect with her professional confidence. Today, she works in the nonprofit sector, assisting other newcomers as they begin their own journeys in Canada.
Her experience is just one of many that highlight what’s possible when employers are intentional about inclusion. Purdys Chocolatier’s involvement has gone far beyond hiring—they’ve invested time, insight, and mentorship to help bridge gaps for those seeking their first opportunity in a new country.
“Working with MOSAIC is not just about filling roles,” Jennifer says. “It’s about building long-term relationships and strengthening your workforce.”
As Purdys Chocolatier looks to the future, they remain committed to deepening their efforts and continuing their collaboration with MOSAIC. Their hiring practices reflect both compassion and intention, showing how businesses can build resilience by welcoming diverse perspectives and investing in people.
We are proud to celebrate Purdys Chocolatier for their ongoing leadership, generosity, and thoughtful approach to inclusive hiring, and we deeply appreciate the trust they have placed in us and the meaningful partnership we have built together over the years.
