The NuYu (Newcomer Youth) Popular Theatre program held an amazing performance on March 9, 2019 at MOSAIC headquarters.
This program is one of the youth programs offered by MOSAIC and it is open to immigrant, refugee, and multicultural youth. It provides a safe space for youth to express themselves and the challenges they may be facing. Participants learned and practiced Popular Theatre as a tool to explore solutions to the struggles they may be experiencing as multicultural youth.
Over the course of 6 sessions, the youth participants of this program worked extremely hard to create their scenes while also connecting to their peers and having fun.
During the performance, the youth showcased the obstacles a youth may endure integrating into Canada such as peer pressure, bullying, and discrimination. The audience, consisting of their family and friends, also had opportunities to join in the scenes and comprise solutions to the problems presented in the scenes.
Through theatre exercises and games in MOSAIC’s NuYu program, participants gradually create scenes which reflect their personal life challenges. The program creates a space for youth to collectively come up with positive solutions to the challenges presented in the scenes by their peers. To learn more, please visit mosaicbc.org/nuyu.
