Equal Press is a MOSAIC project that is seeking to promote underrepresented voices in news media.
We are looking for self-identified women, those assigned female at birth, and Two Spirit, non-binary, and intersex folx to join our database. Interested individuals should also:
- Live/work in British Columbia
- Have a minimum of 5 years of experience in an academic, professional, or advocacy capacity, and
- Have expertise relating to gender and/or gender-based violence.
In an effort to have our expert database reflect the diversity of British Columbia, we encourage experts of diverse racial, ethnic, class, and disability backgrounds to apply.
If you meet these criteria and are still uncertain about your abilities to speak with the media, don’t worry! We are providing FREE media-training workshops to those in the Lower Mainland who are interested in learning about how to engage with the press. Just indicate your interest when applying!

About Equal Press
Equal Press is a three-year initiative run by MOSAIC and funded by the Department of Women and Gender Equality (formerly Status of Women Canada) and based in Vancouver, British Columbia. The project was launched as a response to two key issues:
- Women experts are currently underrepresented in local news media
- Gender-based violence is often under-reported or poorly reported in news media.
Our three main objectives are:
- To promote gender equality and diversity in news media content;
- To enhance news media capacity to appropriately and ethically address gender-based violence; and
- To enhance the representation of women and people of marginalized genders as experts and leaders in news media.
To achieve this, Equal Press is creating resources and guides for news media outlets, journalists, and journalism students on trauma-informed reporting of gender-based violence. Additionally, we are developing a database of diverse media-trained experts on gender and/or gender-based violence for journalists to access for consultation, guidance, and comment.
