Surrey Newcomers

On Oct. 7th, MOSAIC’s Surrey Newcomers’ Centre hosted the 8th and final open house event to celebrate the organization’s 40th anniversary.  The Surrey site opened approximately one year ago and houses both employment and settlement staff.  On display were various items representing the diversity of the Centre’s staff’s countries: Afghanistan, Trinidad & Tobago, South Korea, Russia and Rwanda.Guests and staff were treated to original songs by Grace, a Syrian refugee and MOSAIC client who arrived in Canada only a few weeks ago.Joining in the celebrations were MPs Sukh Dhaliwal (Newton) and Randeep Sarai (Surrey Central) as well as MLAs Harry Bains (Surrey Newton) and Marvin Hung (Surrey Panorama). All four spoke highly of MOSAIC, and shared their perspectives on the important work MOSAIC is doing in the Surrey area and Metro Vancouver.Representatives from TD Canada Trust – Bupinder Grewal, Senior Regional Manager, Catherine Cook, Manager of Community Banking and Lars Bjorinson, Branch Manager, Private Wealth – presented MOSAIC with a $25,000 cheque to support our work with refugees and other newcomers.MOSAIC Executive Director Eyob Naizghi and MOSAIC Director of Communications & Development Ninu Kang both addressed attendees and expressed appreciation for the continued support we are receiving from the public and private sectors.
