MOSAIC is proud to honour Uncommon Purpose (formerly Traction on Demand) with the 2022 MOSAIC Employer Recognition Award. This award, presented June 9, 2022, recognizes an employer who is a leader in providing a workplace that supports the principles of multiculturalism and employment equity.

Uncommon Purpose is a product development company that turns ideas into business solutions by focusing on the potential of its people. It has been the force behind an extensive suite of business solutions. From concepts to fully realized companies, Uncommon Purpose has applied its ethos of “always purposeful, never common” to each, creating a track record to believe in.

Since 2019, MOSAIC has worked closely with Uncommon Purpose to create many significant initiatives for newcomers in BC, including bootcamp training for immigrants and various internship opportunities. For example, they dedicated over 50 volunteers and staff to the Fast Track to Customer Relationship Management (F2CRM) program over eight months.

“There is a shortage of tech talent in Canada, but people do not need a computer science degree to work in the tech space anymore. This provides a way to include people from non-traditional backgrounds to get some valuable domain-specific skills in CRM which are in high demand,” says Manu Varma, Uncommon Purpose, VP External Relations.

Manu attended the awards event and accepted the MOSAIC Employer Recognition Award on behalf of Uncommon Purpose.

MOSAIC was impressed by how dedicated the Uncommon Purpose team was in sharing their time and knowledge with program participants each week. Their team worked tirelessly to create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for program participants. They remain committed to building a diverse workforce and being an equal opportunity employer.

“They were selfless, dedicated, and shared MOSAIC’s advocacies in providing better learning opportunities for our clients, creating fun and upbeat learning platforms that made it easier to understand for our participants,” notes Effie Garcia, MOSAIC’s WorkXP Internship Program Coordinator and the award nominator.

Larry Chan, MOSAIC’s Senior Manager of Employment Programs, says that in 2019, Uncommon Purpose (operating under their previous business name of Traction on Demand) provided financial support that allowed MOSAIC to give our clients the Salesforce for All Program for free. In 2020, MOSAIC worked with Uncommon Purpose to screen and refer applicants for their Traction Access Program.

Manu says he and Uncommon Purpose will continue to stay focused on helping others. “I’m excited to continue inspiring and motivating other private companies to embrace creating similar programs; to give what they are good at. Picasso said it best: the meaning of life is to find your gift and the purpose is to give it away. At Uncommon Purpose, our gift is technology, and that’s how we want to give back.”

We congratulate and thank Uncommon Purpose for their tireless commitment to fostering an inclusive community and opportunity for all.
