Through private refugee sponsorship, resettlement support, and community integration, this initiative will help newcomers rebuild their lives in Canada with safety, dignity, and hope. Why this initiative is urgently needed
The conflict in Sudan has reached unprecedented levels. Since April 2023, a devastating power struggle between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has displaced over 12 million people within Sudan. Among them, over 3 million have sought refuge in neighbouring countries like Chad, Egypt, and Uganda, where resources are scarce, and opportunities are limited.
These individuals are not just statistics; they are mothers, fathers, children, and young professionals whose lives have been torn apart. Many have lost access to education, healthcare, safety, and their basic human rights.
Canada’s humanitarian pathway, launched in February 2024, provides hope for a better future for Sudanese refugees. Through private sponsorship, MOSAIC’s SIRA initiative is committed to supporting the most vulnerable by dedicating our sponsorship allocations for the years 2025-2027 to refugees from Sudan and South Sudan.
How will SIRA provide support
Following the success of our Afghan Response Initiative (ARI), SIRA continues our commitment to long-term refugee support. Running from 2025 to 2027, the SIRA initiative will offer sustained and structured support in three key areas:
- Private Sponsorship Applications: We guide and support co-sponsors through the application process, making sponsorship accessible and straightforward.
- Resettlement Assistance: Once refugees arrive in Canada, MOSAIC will provide guidance to co-sponsors and the newly arrived refugees to help them resettle and integrate successfully into the society during their first year.
- Rebuilding Life in Safety: Through connections and referrals to local services and resources, refugees will gain access to healthcare, education, and essential community services.
By leveraging our expertise in refugee sponsorship, the team will ensure that every co-sponsor is well-equipped and every newcomer receives the support they need.
