At MOSAIC’s 2026 Annual General Meeting, held on September 23, we were glad to welcome three new members to our Board of Directors: Brian DeMuy, Shaheen Nanji, and Sid Hathiramani.
They bring expertise in non-profit governance, cybersecurity and technology, international development, and finance, along with personal ties to the newcomer experience that MOSAIC serves every day. Their skills and lived experiences reflect MOSAIC’s mission of supporting newcomers and building inclusive communities.
Meet Brian DeMuy
Brian has an extensive record of commitment to community development and the governance of non-profit organizations. He has many years of governance experience having previously served as Chair of Family Services of Greater Vancouver where he also held oversight positions in finance, HR, asset management, and nominations. He served as a board member on Board Voice, an advocacy organization of non-profit boards in BC. He has completed governance training specifically for non-profit boards from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
Brian has forged a career in technology with over 20 years in the cyber security and telecommunications industry. He is a client director with Arctiq Solutions, a national advisory and managed services provider in cyber security, AI, and hybrid cloud infrastructure. His career spans roles at Fortinet Canada, EMC, and Telus and he brings senior level experience in solutions design and deployment, cyber security and compliance, and strategic partnerships.
Brian holds a degree in Political Science and Economics from McGill University and completed his management studies at the London School of Economics.
Meet Shaheen Nanji
Shaheen was born and raised in Kenya and immigrated to Canada as a young adult. As an Indo-Canadian, her cross-cultural perspective informs her work in international development, global partnerships, and community engagement. She is committed to advancing equity, inclusion, and ethical leadership by mobilizing diaspora engagement, strengthening cross-sector collaboration, and contributing to more just and sustainable systems.
Over a distinguished career at Simon Fraser University, Shaheen led initiatives across Africa, Asia, and Canada spanning international development, higher education, refugee and newcomer settlement, public health, environmental sustainability, and equity-focused programming. She currently serves on the boards of Academics Without Borders and Mosaic. She works as an independent consultant specializing in international relations, international development, and immigration. Her contributions have been recognized through honours including the 2024 Top 25 Canadian Immigrant Award and the Chris Dagg Award for International Impact.
Meet Sid Hathiramani
Sid Hathiramani is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) and Chief Operating Officer at Watson Board Advisors. Over a 15+ year career spanning finance, strategy, and executive leadership, he has helped organizations make better decisions, build stronger teams, and modernize the systems and processes that enable long-term success. Through his work at Watson, Sid has developed insight into leading governance practices, including board composition, CEO oversight and succession planning, and board-management relationships, giving him a unique perspective on how high-performing boards create lasting organizational value.
Sid immigrated to Canada with his family at the age of 10, and his own experience as a newcomer has shaped his appreciation for the opportunities, challenges, and sacrifices that accompany building a new life. That experience fuels his commitment to organizations that foster belonging, opportunity, and resilient communities. He is particularly inspired by MOSAIC’s role in helping newcomers not only access essential services but also build confidence, connection, and a sense of home. Sid is motivated to contribute his governance, financial, and strategic experience to help ensure MOSAIC continues to grow its impact while remaining a strong, well-governed organization for the communities it serves.
