Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism Awards – Kemal Sen

On March 21, 2019, International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, the Government of B.C. recognized the outstanding contributions of British Columbians in promoting multiculturalism and anti-racism at the 2019 British Columbia Multiculturalism and Anti-Racism Awards.

In a ceremony attended by many prominent people including Hon. Premier John Horgan, MOSAIC youth leader Kemal Sen was recognized with certification under the Youth Category for his outstanding contribution and service in fighting racism and strengthening multiculturalism in communities across B.C.

After volunteering for several months with MOSAIC, Kemal became an organizer of the Human Library Project where youth present to the community on the achievements of refugee and immigrant youth. Promoting multiculturalism and diversity, it also assists the participants in their voice against racism and discrimination. Kemal started leadership classes for youth clients to help them integrate into Canadian society through technology.

Kemal is also a youth leader in the Newcomer Youth Civic Engagement Project of the Canadian Council for Refugees (CCR) where he has worked on several events and facilitated CCR Youth Consultations. He values diversity and demonstrates an open mind and respect for different beliefs, races, colours, genders, national origins, religions, ages, physical and mental abilities.
