For many years, MOSAIC has been the only non-profit organization in BC offering newcomers free support on many legal issues. The program provides information, summary advice, referrals and representation on immigration, poverty and family law matters to low-income immigrants and refugees.
The program operates within Family and Settlement Services, serving clients from approximately 64 countries in 51 languages, and helps newcomers deal more effectively with the Canadian legal system, ensuring they are informed of their legal rights and responsibilities. Program services are provided in a linguistically and culturally sensitive environment.
The Legal Advocacy Program staff include qualified legal advocates who act on behalf of clients. Program staff liaise with clients, government officials and tribunal members. Staff handle applications, submissions and communications with various public benefits offices, immigration offices in Canada, and overseas embassies. The program has access to, and is supervised by lawyers.
Thank you to the Law Foundation of British Columbia for providing a grant that enables this program to make a significant impact on the lives of thousands of clients over the years.
