MOSAIC Job Fair 2025 Brings Hope Amid Rising Unemployment

May 14, 2025

On May 13, 2025, MOSAIC’s 13th Annual Job Fair welcomed more than 2,700 job seekers and over 50 employers for a full day of in-person hiring, networking, and support.

This year’s fair came at a critical moment. According to Statistics Canada, the national unemployment rate rose to 6.9% in April 2025—the highest since January 2017, excluding the pandemic years. Youth, newcomers, and equity-deserving groups have been among the hardest hit—making inclusive hiring initiatives like the MOSAIC Job Fair more essential than ever.

The high demand for this year’s event was clear, with tickets selling out well in advance.

“It is very tough, the market is very competitive. Unless you have connections, you wouldn’t get in. So that’s what I’m looking for today: connections, interviews, and hopefully a job,” one participant told a CBC reporter while waiting in line. (Watch CBC’s coverage here.)

Employers from a wide range of sectors—including healthcare, public service, technology, construction, finance, and retail—offered job opportunities spanning from entry-level positions to specialized roles.

In line with MOSAIC’s commitment to inclusive access, the fair featured early admission for persons with disabilities and included exhibitors providing targeted support for Indigenous job seekers and individuals facing accessibility barriers.

Now in its 13th year, the MOSAIC Job Fair remains one of the largest and most inclusive employment events in the region. Over the years, it has helped connect more than 23,000 job seekers with 650+ employers, while providing tools and services that extend far beyond the day itself.

“An event like this makes a big difference because it’s in-person,” said David Lee, Director of Employment, Language, and Social Enterprises at MOSAIC. “It’s about getting in front of people, talking to them face to face, and learning more about the market.”

MOSAIC’s employment services continue year-round, offering workshops, one-on-one coaching, resume support, and training to help job seekers navigate an evolving labour market with confidence. Discover the full range of MOSAIC employment programs here.
