MOSAIC celebrates more than 200 volunteers

April 19, 2021

From Language Centres to our Income Tax Clinic, volunteers are an essential part of MOSAIC’s work. During National Volunteer Week from April 18 – 24, MOSAIC recognizes and celebrates our incredible volunteers and thanks them for everything they do.

This year’s theme is ‘The value of one, the power of many’ to reflect the power of working together towards a common purpose. Over the past year, many of MOSAIC volunteers have transitioned to virtual volunteering in order to continue supporting refugee and immigrant clients.

“It’s hard to come up with words to describe how much your support means to MOSAIC, and we are thrilled to have you as part of the MOSAIC family. Thank you for your dedication and for making the world a better place,” said Volunteer Coordinator Farkhonda Rajabe. She added that no matter which program a volunteer is involved with at MOSAIC, it is clear that they care about newcomers and their community.

In the last year, an incredible 281 volunteers contributed more than 6,000 hours of their time to MOSAIC, such as hosting virtual English language conversation circles or providing career mentorship through video calls.

A number of the volunteers that provide support to clients were once clients themselves. “I chose to volunteer with MOSAIC because it’s a great organization that helped me as a newcomer, and I’d like to give back to my community,” said Jessica Pena, who volunteers with the Income Tax Clinic and English Conversation Circles.
