Happy International Youth Day 2019 – “Transforming Education”

August 12, 2019

The theme of International Youth Day 2019, “Transforming education”, highlights efforts to make education more relevant, equitable and inclusive for all youth, including efforts by youth themselves.

International Youth Day 2019 examines how governments, young people and youth-led and youth-focused organizations, as well as other stakeholders, are transforming education and how these efforts are contributing to the achievement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. According to Ontario’s Ministry of Education, community-connected experiential learning is an approach to student learning that provides students with opportunities to participate actively in experiences connected to a community outside of school (local, national, or global), reflect on those experiences to derive meaning from them, and apply their learning to decisions and actions in various aspects of their lives.

Newcomer Youth Popular Theatre

MOSAIC’s Newcomer Youth Popular Theatre (NuYu) is a unique and powerful program that engages newcomer youth and community for social change. Through theatre exercises, games and experiential learning, newcomer youth share their stories and issues that are important to them. NuYu creates a safe space to reflect personal life challenges and explore positive changes and paths in a collective and collaborative way. Participants turn these stories into scenes which will be performed in front of audience. The audience will join the scene by offering their approaches and voices to the issues presented.

MOSAIC is offering a free NuYu Popular Theatre facilitator training in September 2019 and we are now accepting applications. The training offers unique opportunities to enhance your facilitation skills and learn basic theatre techniques.

If you are passionate about empowering newcomer youth and creating social change, this is a perfect opportunity! Please submit your application to dlee@mosaicbc.org by August 23, 2019.

Please note: Limited seats. Only those selected for the training will be contacted. After the training, trained facilitators may be expected to co-deliver one series of NuYu program with MOSAIC for refugee/newcomer youth.
