Gender lower-surgery clinic opening in Vancouver in September 2019

Montreal will not be the only city in Canada to offer gender-affirming lower surgery. Work is underway to open a new gender surgery clinic at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) in September! This is exciting news as it is a step towards equitable care and a more equitable future for trans people.

Although surgery is not the only aspect of medical transition, many individuals experience gender dysphoria (distress a person feels due to their birth-assigned sex and gender not matching their gender identity) due to the lack of options in Canada for gender-affirming surgery. This clinic will assist with addressing the gap in which trans individuals face, and promotes equitable and accessible care.

The clinic is not yet accepting referrals for lower surgeries, however, you may follow any updates through Trans Care B.C.’s website: transcarebc.ca.

MOSAIC’s Trans Online Resource Hub provides information and support to folks who identify as transgender, transsexual, nonbinary, gender nonconforming, genderqueer, two-spirited, agender, polygender, bigender, and many more gender identities and expressions that are different from expectations based on their sex assigned at birth.
