New MOSAIC Youth Workshops Focus on Skills and Growth

April 8, 2025

MOSAIC is excited to announce two free, in-person workshops designed to equip Burnaby youth and young adults with real-world skills for success. Whether you’re in middle school or navigating early adulthood, these workshops offer a welcoming space to build confidence, make friends, and gain valuable tools for your future.

Happening on Saturday, April 12, 2025, and hosted by MOSAIC’s Youth Program in partnership with JA British Columbia (JABC), both events are tailored for newcomer youth and their peers—and yes, lunch and snacks are included!

If you’re in Grades 7–9 or a newcomer aged 16–29, read on to see how you can get involved in these fun, skill-building sessions.

Workshop 1: Dollars with Sense

Age group: Youth in Grades 7–9

Date: Saturday, April 12, 2025

Time: 11:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Location: MOSAIC High Gate Office, 7155 Kingsway #315, Burnaby

Learning to manage money is one of the most empowering things a young person can do—and Dollars with Sense makes it fun! Through games, challenges, and group discussions, participants will explore how to budget, save, and make smart financial choices in real life.

What You’ll Do:

Budgeting Games: Practice spending “play money” wisely.

Savings Challenges: Discover how little habits can lead to big results.

Peer Discussions: Chat with others about spending strategies and savings goals.

You’ll earn a certificate of completion to recognize your achievements—and enjoy a delicious lunch (vegan and halal options available).

Workshop 2: Success Skills

Age group: 16–29

Date: Saturday, April 12, 2025

Time: 11:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Location: MOSAIC High Gate Office, 7155 Kingsway #315, Burnaby

New to Canada and wondering how to handle challenges at school or your first job? Success Skills is a hands-on workshop designed for newcomer youth and young adults aged 16–29 who want to build confidence in real-life situations—like resolving workplace conflicts, setting personal goals, or communicating clearly in new environments.

What You’ll Do:

Interactive Role-Play: Practice real-world scenarios and improve communication.

Goal-Setting Workshops: Set a plan for your future—whether for school or a new job.

Team-Building Activities: Solve problems together and build new friendships.

You’ll leave with tools to handle stress, adapt to new environments, and thrive in any setting—plus a certificate of completion to show off your new skills. Vegan and halal lunch options will also be provided.

Who Can Join?

Both workshops are open to current or former MOSAIC clients and their children, newcomer youth in the Burnaby community, and youth of all backgrounds and immigration statuses—permanent residents, citizens, refugee claimants, and those with no status.

These workshops go beyond textbooks, offering practical skills that support success in school, work, and life. Participants will connect with peers who understand their journey, receive guidance from experts dedicated to youth empowerment, and walk away with a certificate that can strengthen school or job applications. Most importantly, each participant will leave with a stronger sense of confidence and belonging—ready to take on whatever comes next.
