CPABC’s longstanding partnership with MOSAIC reflects a shared commitment to expanding opportunity, fostering belonging, and helping newcomers build meaningful lives and careers in British Columbia.
For Lori Mathison, FCPA, LLB, President and CEO of the Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia (CPABC), supporting MOSAIC’s 50th anniversary is both a celebration and a continuation of a valued partnership. Over the years, CPABC has seen many newcomers build careers as CPAs, contributing their expertise to businesses, organizations, and communities across the province. Those experiences have reinforced the importance of creating pathways for people to apply their talents, build connections, and thrive in their new home.
Creating pathways to opportunity
CPABC is the training, governing, and regulatory body for more than 40,000 CPA members and candidates. Its purpose is to protect the public interest by empowering current and future CPAs to help build strong businesses, sustainable economies, and a thriving province. Integrity, inclusivity, forward-thinking, and social responsibility are central to that mission.
Those same values underpin CPABC’s relationship with MOSAIC. Through the partnership, CPABC has supported newcomers exploring careers in accounting and finance while helping strengthen a profession enriched by diverse perspectives.
Turning values into action
For CPABC, social responsibility means investing in people and creating opportunities for them to succeed. That commitment takes many forms, from financial literacy education and volunteerism to equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives and support for local organizations.

Its annual Day of Giving brings those values to life. Each year, CPABC employees volunteer with organizations across Vancouver, contributing their time and energy to causes that support people and the environment. Over the years, they have worked with groups focused on food security, social services, environmental stewardship, and cultural preservation, strengthening connections with the communities they serve.

Opening doors and creating lasting impact
This commitment is closely connected to MOSAIC’s work. Both organizations believe that diverse perspectives strengthen workplaces and communities, and that everyone should have the chance to reach their potential. For newcomers building a new life in Canada, access to meaningful work and a sense of belonging can create ripple effects that extend far beyond an individual’s own success.
“We have seen many examples of newcomers to Canada who have gone on to become successful CPAs and active community leaders, giving back through volunteerism and mentorship,” says Mathison.
Financial literacy is another important area where the two organizations’ work connects. According to Mathison, understanding financial choices can help people build confidence, improve their financial well-being, and make informed decisions that support their goals.
Through its sponsorship of MOSAIC’s 50th Anniversary Gala Luncheon, CPABC hopes to help ensure newcomers and diverse individuals continue to have access to opportunities that support their success.
