Opening Doors, Building Leaders: Boyden’s Belief in the Power of Newcomers

October 22, 2026

A global leadership firm reflects on why newcomers matter to Canada’s future, and on a surprising connection to MOSAIC’s own leadership.

Kathryn Young, Managing Partner of Boyden in British Columbia, describes the decision to support MOSAIC’s 50th anniversary as a natural one. “At a time when countries seem to be becoming a bit more isolationist, it’s heartening to see an organization that works every day to open our doors to the best the world has to offer,” she says.

Boyden sees first-hand what newcomers bring to Canada, from a broader global perspective to stronger national productivity and competitiveness. Just as importantly, Young believes welcoming newcomers shows the world what Canada values as a nation.

Building strong leadership across sectors

Boyden is a global leadership and executive search firm that helps organizations across the private, public, and not-for-profit sectors identify and develop exceptional leaders. In BC, Young and her team partner with boards and executive teams to help them navigate leadership transitions, build high-performing organizations, and contribute to stronger communities.

That work has a personal link to MOSAIC. Young is proud to share that several years ago, Boyden played a role in bringing CEO Olga Stachova into the organization.

“And if you know Olga, you will also know she’s a hard person to say no to!” she adds.

Investing in BC communities

For Boyden, investing in community goes hand in hand with business. Young believes strong communities are built by strong institutions, diverse voices, and opportunities for people to thrive, and that business success and community well-being are deeply connected.

That belief shows up close to home. Over more than 50 years of service, Boyden’s Vancouver office, which Young describes as “relatively small (but mighty!)”, has contributed over $1 million and countless volunteer hours to BC not-for-profit organizations working to strengthen their communities.

A shared commitment to newcomers’ success

What resonated most with the Boyden team was MOSAIC’s ability to create lasting impact over five decades by helping newcomers overcome barriers, access opportunities, and fully participate in Canadian society. Young sees that work as part of a virtuous cycle that is critical to Canada’s place in the world.

Boyden sponsored MOSAIC’s 50th Anniversary Gala Luncheon with a few hopes in mind: to raise awareness of MOSAIC’s work, help ensure the organization can continue serving communities for generations to come, and shine a light on the importance of newcomers for the health and future of the country. More broadly, Young hopes it encourages others to support organizations that foster inclusion, belonging, and opportunity.

“When individuals, businesses, and community organizations come together around a shared purpose, the impact is profound,” she says.

Honouring MOSAIC’s 50 years

“It’s always a good idea to pause, reflect and celebrate what’s good in the world. And so cheers to you, MOSAIC, on this important anniversary, and cheers to your dedicated staff and cheers to all those you serve!” – Kathryn Young
