New partnership aims to address workplace racism

May 27, 2022

A new multi-year partnership between Hudson’s Bay Foundation and MOSAIC will work to address systemic barriers to employment for people from culturally-diverse backgrounds. The partnership was formed as part of Hudson’s Bay Foundation Charter for Change, a 10 year, $30M commitment to accelerate racial equity in Canada.

The Foundation has committed an incredible $250,000 for MOSAIC’s new program Combatting Institutionalized Racism: Equitable Access to Employment.

The program aims to raise awareness through the development of participatory workshops and training sessions for BC employers, providing participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to fight racism and discrimination.

“We are so grateful that Hudson’s Bay Foundation sees the importance of addressing systemic racism and barriers to employment. With this funding, we can build BC employers’ capacity to not only provide opportunities for newcomers to reflect on the reality of racism in their communities, but also provide tools to examine the established structures and their own role in combating institutionalized racism,” said Sandhya Ghai, Manager of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at MOSAIC.

In addition to employer training, MOSAIC will utilize the funding to host participatory workshops to enhance newcomers’ understanding of racism and strategies to use when they experience or witness racist incidents, including an online platform that would allow them to report such incidents.
