50 Years of Supporting Newcomers

For 50 years, MOSAIC has helped newcomers build new lives in Canada. What began in 1976 as a small community organization to support people learning English, finding work, and navigating local support has grown into one of Canada’s largest immigrant-serving organizations.

Today, MOSAIC operates from more than 50 locations, is supported by over 500 staff and 400 volunteers, and serves more than 33,000 clients every year. Our work is rooted in community, belonging, and the belief that newcomers strengthen the social, cultural, and economic fabric of our country. As we mark this milestone year, we honour the stories that brought us here and invite our community to help shape the next 50 years.

Guiding Principles

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and an intersectionality lens are core to our programming and internal work.

We are committed to Truth & Reconciliation and meaningful relationships with Indigenous Peoples, on whose territories we provide our services.

We are mindful of the social and environmental impact of our work.

Together We Thrive

“Our 50th anniversary is a moment to reflect on the resilience, generosity, and shared purpose that have shaped MOSAIC for five decades. The heart of our work has always been people: newcomers finding their footing, staff and volunteers walking alongside them, and communities opening their doors. This milestone is not only about looking back. It is also about imagining what comes next. It is an invitation to keep building a future where every newcomer feels supported, valued, and able to contribute. With the continued support of our community, the next fifty years will be even stronger.”

Meaning Behind the Design

This artwork celebrates MOSAIC’s 50 years of impact through a Coast Salish lens of connection and reflection. The design within the 5 and 0 features traditional Salish forms—ovals, crescents, and trigons—arranged to suggest fluid movement, like a drop of water creating ripples in the ocean. It symbolizes the ripple effect of community, growth, and many voices coming together to create something enduring. Beneath the numbers, the Salish eye represents vision, awareness, and interconnectedness, reflecting MOSAIC’s work guided by empathy and understanding.

The calming, water-inspired colour palette speaks to life and renewal. Each ripple represents the interconnection of voices, generations, and cultures that continue to shape MOSAIC’s story of resilience, shared growth, and community.

Charlene Johnny is a Coast Salish artist from the Quw’utsun Tribes of Duncan, B.C. residing on the unceded territory of her relatives the xwməθkwəy̓ əm, Skwxwú7mesh, and Səl̓ ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh Nations.

“This design uses core Coast Salish forms to convey movement, reflection, and connection. Like a single drop of water creating ripples, it symbolizes how individuals stories and acts of care build community over time, like MOSAIC’s fifty years of collective impact”.
