March 17, 2024

This resource package, born from the dedicated collaboration between MOSAIC, healthcare experts, community partners, and funders, consists of two distinct sections:

-For newcomers: Understanding BC’s healthcare

The guide begins with “Navigating BC’s Healthcare System: An Introduction for Newcomers.” It shows newcomers how to connect with local healthcare professionals, like family doctors and specialists. It highlights essential resources such as the Pathways Medical Care Directory and HealthLink BC for their significant role in facilitating these connections.

The guide also covers emergency health services and support comprehensively. It provides vital contact information for Poison Control and a list of hospitals in British Columbia, ensuring  quick access to emergency care when needed.

-For healthcare providers: Navigating the IFHP (health care bc canada)

“Interfacing with the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP): A Provider’s Guide” is the second part, offers guidance on interacting with the IFHP, a program designed for populations awaiting qualification for provincial or territorial health insurance. It will guide healthcare providers through the eligibility criteria and the spectrum of healthcare benefits under the IFHP, enabling them to better serve eligible patients.

Furthermore, it gathers current government resources and expert insights, particularly from the MVRRT health coordination meetings. This aims to enhance healthcare providers’ knowledge and efficiency in navigating the BC healthcare system’s billing and administrative aspects, especially the IFHP.
