Employers Open Their Doors for Newcomers

July 18, 2016

A group of thirteen Syrian jobseekers got their first glimpse of the inner workings of two Lower Mainland businesses on June 28th, who generously opened their doors for a job site tour. The Mobile Job Fair first took the newcomers to the Arc’teryx manufacturing plant in New Westminster, an energetic and exceptionally innovative apparel company, with over 800 employees. The HR Team at Arc’teryx gave a presentation about the mission and values of the company, followed by the current and future job opportunities available. The presentation was followed by a tour of the large facility by the Production Manager, himself an immigrant to Canada. Our next stop was the vast warehouse and retail facilities at Loblaw and the Real Canadian Superstore where hundreds of people are employed. The job seekers were met by the HR Manager, District Manager, Store Manager, and an Arabic speaking Operations Manager, who accompanied us on the three hour tour of their site, followed by a detailed presentation. Both employers were very interested in providing job opportunities for Syrian Refugees, and will be working closely with MOSAIC Employment Advisor Georgiana Qin to help place some of the job seekers that went on the tour.If you are an employer looking to hire newcomers and refugees please email employer@mosaicbc.org.
