It is the right space for LGBTQIA2+ refugees who have unique needs and challenges.
I Belong is a program welcoming all LGBTQIA2+ refugees and newcomers. We provide a safe space to connect and receive personalized support.
This program hosts four events every month:
Navigating a new country and language as an 2SLGBTQIA+ refugee or newcomer can be challenging. The I Belong program is here to guide you through this process.
This program provides community support, one-on-one help, referrals for settlement needs, and counselling. We also have monthly programs for members:
One-On-One Support
· Finding employment through referrals to employment programs
· Navigating the health care system
· Completing applications (for example Citizenship application)
· Accessing government supports (for example income/rental assistance)
· Navigating the challenging housing system
· Understanding life in Canada (like banking, education etc.)
· Connecting with other community services and groups (like language classes, 2SLGBTQIA+ services, etc.)
· Gaining emotional and social support.
I Belong Peer Café
Peer cafés provide an opportunity to meet new people, make friends, and participate in fun activities facilitated by the 2SLGBTQIA+ support worker. This monthly support group is a safe space where you can connect to celebrate diversity, share experiences, and learn about community resources.
Counselling Sessions
Connect with 2SLGBTQIA+ experienced clinical counsellors to navigate personal, emotional, or psychological challenges, foster self-awareness, reduce anxiety, improve self-esteem, enhance personal growth and well-being. Group and one to one sessions are available.
Beyond Borders & Binaries Support Group
Meet with other transgender, non-binary, and gender diverse newcomers. Beyond Borders and Binaries (BBB) is facilitated every month by community members with lived experience in collaboration with registered clinical counselors. Participants can learn about community resources, share experiences, and find support in a space that is understanding and safe for transgender, non-binary, and gender diverse newcomers.
Available Languages
One-on-one services are available in English language. Group sessions are offered in English, additional language support is available upon request.
We have individual and group counselling services and therapy sessions available on a monthly basis. You can reach out to the program support worker to schedule a session with experienced counsellors who specialize in 2SLGBTQIA+ issues.
Yes, confidentiality is a top priority in the I Belong Program. All interactions, including counselling sessions and support group discussions, are strictly confidential. Your privacy and well-being are respected and protected at all times.
