Services for Newcomer 2SLGBTQIA+ Refugees

I Belong is a program welcoming all 2SLGBTQIA+ refugees and newcomers.

We provide a safe space to connect and receive personalized support, celebrating diversity and inclusion.

This program hosts four events every month:

  • All members peer support group – First Monday of the month.
  • All members counselling group – Second Monday of the month.
  • All members expressive art therapy group – Third Monday of the month.
  • Beyond Borders and Binaries group (for trans and non-binary members) – Last Monday of the month.

This program is open to 2SLGBTQIA+ community members. Unsure if you qualify? Register below, and a settlement worker will be in touch. 

Program Description

The I Belong program is here to guide you through navigating a new country and language as an 2SLGBTQIA+ refugee or newcomer and provide community support, one-on-one help, referrals for settlement needs.

Confidentiality is a top priority in the I Belong Program. All interactions, including counselling sessions and support group discussions, are strictly confidential. Your privacy and well-being are respected and protected at all times.

We also have continuous events for members.

A little bit more of what we offer:

One-On-One Support / Sesiones de apoyo uno a uno

Listed bellow are some of the key areas where we assist, ensuring inclusivity by respecting gender pronouns and providing gender-neutral support:

  • Referrals to employment programs
  • Navigating the health care system
  • Accessing government supports (for example income/rental assistance)
  • Navigating the challenging housing system
  • Understanding life in Canada (like banking, education etc.)
  • Connecting with other community services and groups (like language classes, 2SLGBTQIA+ services, etc.)
  • Gaining emotional and social support

I Belong Peer Café / Café Sociales

Peer cafés provide an opportunity to meet new people, make friends, and participate in fun activities facilitated by the 2SLGBTQIA+ support worker. This monthly support group is a safe space where you can connect to celebrate diversity, share experiences, and learn about community resources.

Counselling Sessions / Sesiones de Consejeria

Connect with 2SLGBTQIA+ experienced clinical counsellors to navigate personal, emotional, or psychological challenges, foster self-awareness, reduce anxiety, improve self-esteem, enhance personal growth and well-being. Group sessions are provided, but one-on-ones are based on availability.

Beyond Borders & Binaries Support Group

Meet with other transgender, non-binary, and gender diverse newcomers. Beyond Borders and Binaries (BBB) is facilitated every month by community members with lived experience. Participants can learn about community resources, share experiences, and find support in a space that is understanding and safe for our clients.

Available Languages

One-on-one services are available in English, Arabic and Spanish. Group sessions are offered in English. Additional language support is available upon request.

How can I access counselling services through this program?

We have individual and group counselling services and therapy sessions available on a monthly basis. You can reach out to the program support worker to schedule a session with experienced counsellors who specialize in 2SLGBTQIA+ issues.

Is there a confidentiality policy in place for the 2SLGBTQIA+ client?
