The Tyee – Okanagan Winemaker Banned from Foreign Worker Program over Abuses

Isaac Phan Nay for The Tyee reports, “Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s website shows Toor Vineyards was fined $118,000 and was permanently banned from hiring through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program or International Mobility Program.”

Hugo Velazquez, Director of Family and Settlement Programs for MOSAIC, commented on the broader impact of this case, noting that the rare punishment sends a strong message within the tightly knit wine industry, highlighting the vital role of thousands of foreign workers, primarily from Mexico, Jamaica, and Guatemala.
