MOSAIC’s Annual General 2016

MOSAIC’s Annual General Meeting took place on September 22nd, at Van Dusen Gardens.  The AGM was held during the “40 Days of Celebration” commemorating MOSAIC’s 40th anniversary and attendance was at maximum capacity, with approximately 120 attendees.In honour of the anniversary, the event opened with a video of Premier Mike Harcourt speaking at MOSAIC’s 1994 AGM and a City TV news report covering Governor General Michaelle Jean’s visit to MOSAIC during its 30th anniversary celebrations in 2006.After the Call to Order and a welcome address from board member Deanna Okun-Nachoff, Eyob Naizghi provided the Executive Director’s Report, which was followed by Chris Duff’s Treasurer’s Report.  The current MOSAIC Board of Directors was re-elected (click here for their bios).The keynote speaker was Professor Gillian Creese, Acting Associate Dean of Arts, Faculty & Equity, and Professor in the Department of Sociology and the Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice at the University of British Columbia.  Her most recent books include The New African Diaspora in Vancouver: Migration, Exclusion and Belonging (University of Toronto Press, 2011), and (with Wendy Frisby) Feminist Community Research: Case Studies and Methodologies (University of British Columbia Press, 2011).  Prof. Creese served on MOSAIC’s board from 1994-2000.
