On August 16, hundreds gathered at Swangard Stadium for the MOSAIC Moves Walkathon, our first, held to mark 50 years of settlement work in Metro Vancouver. In the coverage for CBC News, Akshay Kulkarni captures the day, from the food trucks and live music to the crowds walking together.
At the heart of the story is what makes MOSAIC a reflection of the communities it serves. As Sharon Butler, Director of Strategic Engagement & Partnerships, shares, 80 per cent of the team were once newcomers themselves, and its 600-plus staff speak more than 60 languages between them, coming together under one name that captures the mosaic of Canada. Burnaby Mayor Mike Hurley also recognizes MOSAIC’s role in the city, and the often-unseen work that has supported newcomers here for half a century.
