What You’ll Do and Why It Matters

Picture this: You’ve been saving your allowance for weeks to buy a new video game, but when you go to the store, you see a cool pair of sneakers on sale and can’t decide what to do with your money. At Dollars with Sense, you’ll take part in:

  • Budgeting Games: Create a pretend budget using “play money” to decide how much to spend on things like snacks, clothes, or saving for bigger goals—like that video game or sneakers.
  • Savings Challenges: Learn how to set up a savings plan and understand why saving even a little each week can add up over time (e.g., for a phone or a school trip).
  • Group Discussions: Share ideas with other youth about how to avoid spending all your money at once and make thoughtful choices, like saving for something you really want instead of buying impulsively.

These activities will help you understand how to manage money, avoid financial stress, and make smart choices—skills that will be useful now (like saving for things you want) and in the future (like paying bills or saving for college).

What to Expect

  • Fun, hands-on activities to learn financial literacy concepts like budgeting, saving, and spending wisely.
  • Opportunities to connect with other youth while building practical money skills.
  • A certificate of completion to celebrate your achievement.
  • Lunch and snacks (vegan and halal options available) to keep you fueled.
