MOSAIC’s Private Refugee Sponsorship Program is an international humanitarian undertaking. We are a Canadian leader, resettling a prescribed number of refugees annually while providing the support and tools necessary for newly arrived refugees to thrive in Canada.
MOSAIC supports refugees from all countries of origin, ethnicities, faiths, and sexual orientations. We work to ensure that even those who are not present in the media are not forgotten. Our Private Refugee Sponsorship program has been recognized by the United Nations for its innovation and international partnerships.
Since being incorporated as a Sponsorship Agreement Holder by Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), MOSAIC has submitted over 1000 Private Sponsorship allocations. We are currently not accepting any new sponsorship applications.
Below are some Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program resources for those interested in the program:
Please note that registration for the Afghan Response Initiative (ARI) and Operation Not Forgotten (ONF) is now closed.
Sudan and South Sudan have been facing relentless violence and displacement for many years. The power struggle between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) escalated into a large-scale conflict in April 2023, significantly worsening the humanitarian crisis in the region. According to the UN, since the onset of this conflict, over 12 million people have been displaced within Sudan, with 3 million seeking refuge in neighbouring countries like Chad, Egypt, Ethiopia, the Central African Republic, and Uganda.
In response to this crisis, Canada launched a humanitarian pathway in February 2024, offering a lifeline to those affected by the conflict in Sudan. As part of our unwavering commitment to supporting the most vulnerable refugees, MOSAIC is launching a new initiative to facilitate the resettlement of Sudanese refugees from both Sudan and South Sudan. These individuals have not only been impacted by the conflict that erupted in April 2023 but have also endured prolonged displacement due to the persistent challenges and instability in the region. Through MOSAIC’s Private Sponsorship of Refugees program, this support will extend from 2025 to 2027.
MOSAIC is eager to collaborate with co-sponsors across British Columbia who share our commitment to helping Sudanese refugees from Sudan and South Sudan rebuild their lives in safety and dignity.
Interested Co-Sponsors are invited to fill out the SIRA Expression of Interest Form below. We encourage prospective co-sponsors to complete the EOI as soon as possible to ensure their application is considered for submission in 2025.
As this is a three-year initiative, we will re-open the EOI each year until 2027. If you are not contacted in 2025, we encourage you to monitor our website for future opportunities to submit an Expression of Interest in the following years.
MOSAIC committed to facilitating the resettlement of as many Afghan refugees as possible through our Private Sponsorship of Refugees program from 2022-2024.
Since of the fall of Kabul on August 15 2021, the situation in Afghanistan has deteriorated and the country has experienced significant displacement and a humanitarian crisis. MOSAIC stands with our community members who are directly impacted during this difficult and uncertain time.
Registration for this program is now closed.
In September 2021, MOSAIC invited local community members to register their interest to co-sponsor refugees with MOSAIC as part of our Afghan Response Initiative.
Between 2022 and 2024, we submitted 710 allocations for refugees from Afghanistan. 349 individuals sponsored through this initiative have already arrived in BC with more to come. MOSAIC is deeply grateful to all the co-sponsors and community members who have supported us over the last 3 years to make this initiative a success.
Application submission under this program ended in December 2024, and the program is now focusing on providing settlement support to those individuals who are currently in their first year of settlement in Canada and those who are still yet to arrive.

We provide refugees with a way to resettle in Canada through MOSAIC’s Private Refugee Sponsorship Program.
Operation Not Forgotten focuses on the resettlement of refugees who have been indefinitely detained on Papua New Guinea and Nauru Island, due to Australia’s controversial offshore processing policy. They were left with no hope, no future prospects, and no other resettlement options.
Registration for this program is now closed. We are not accepting referrals.
Canada and Australia are working to help refugees in Australia’s offshore detention centres. They have been “forgotten” on Manus Island and Nauru due to Australia’s Offshore Detention Policy.
Amnesty International describes these detention centres as “open air” prisons and concentration camps. While these centres are now closed, many refugees and asylum seekers still cannot leave.
Most refugees are from Iran, Myanmar, Afghanistan, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Somalia and Pakistan. They were fleeing war, violence, and political or ethnic persecution. (Finding Freedom – a documentary on refugees affected by Australia’s Offshore Detention Policy).
We want to show them and the world that they are NOT forgotten. They deserve a future. Operation Not Forgotten provides private sponsorship in Canada for these refugees.
MOSAIC accepted applications under this initiative from 2019 to 2021. To date, MOSAIC has submitted 272 sponsorship allocations for individuals who have been affected by Australia’s Offshore Policy. We have received nearly 100 individuals who are now in different stages of settlement within Canada with more to come.
Application submission under this program ended in December 2021, and the program is currently focusing on providing resettlement services for those individuals whose applications were already submitted and continue to arrive in Canada.
