Settlement support and your well-being

Gender-Based Enhanced Settlement Program (GESP) is a safe and culturally sensitive space for newcomer immigrants to receive support during settlement and integration in Canada.

Settlement carries many challenges and stressors that not only impact your well-being but may impact your relationships as well. GESP helps you understand settlement challenges, the change in family roles and ways to build happy and healthy relationships.

All services are free, confidential.

Eligibility

This program provides free services to those living in Canada who are:

  • Permanent Residents

  • Conventional Refugees

Program Description

Services include

Individual Support

  • Help with identifying your needs
  • Coaching to make informed decisions
  • Help with filling out any applications
  • Emotional support and basic counselling
  • Support services for victims of violence
  • Referrals to other community services and resources

Group Support

Weekly life skills sessions:

  • Understanding settlement in Canada
  • Developing social networks
  • Developing communication skills
  • Developing personal and social skills
  • Healthy relationship skills
  • Information on gender roles and responsibilities in Canada

Monthly informational workshops with:

  • Finance and banking institutions
  • Employment and networking with WorkBC
  • Housing and emergency shelters with BC Housing
  • Safety measures and role of RCMP police services
  • Health skills with Fraser Health Authority
  • Family law and Legal Aid BC
  • Role of the Ministry of Child and Family Development

How to start

  1. Fill out the Registration Form OR call us on the phone
  2. We talk about your needs
  3. You will get the information and referrals you need
  4. You can attend monthly group workshops and weekly sessions

Services can be offered in a hybrid (in-person and online) arrangement based on preferences.

If you need help attending an in-person workshop or event, we can provide you with free bus tickets.
