Planning for Canada provides resources and support to prepare for your move to Canada. Services are personalized based on your needs.

Our Canada pre-arrival services are for individuals currently living outside Canada but planning to move soon. See full eligibility details below.

Eligibility

To join this program, you must be currently living outside Canada, have applied for immigration to Canada as a principal applicant, spouse or adult dependant and have one of the following:

  • A passport request letter with permanent resident visa issuance
  • A Permanent Resident Visa pick-up notification letter

  • An IRCC invitation to get pre-arrival services
  • An IRCC request that an applicant for permanent residence complete a medical examination
  • An Offer of Employment to a Foreign National (Atlantic Immigration Pilot)

  • A Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) letter/document
  • A Single Entry Permanent Resident Visa

Program Description

Planning for Canada helps you prepare for your move, settlement, and employment in Canada. These Canada pre-arrival services are available before you arrive.

First, apply and do the first two steps through the national Planning for Canada program:

  • Step 1: Attend a Group Orientation session. You will get important information on living and working in Canada.
  • Step 2: Get your Personalized Planning Session. You will discuss your main settlement and employment needs with a counsellor. They will create your personalized action plan
  • Step 3: Referral to MOSAIC Advisor. You will be referred to an Advisor from British Columbia who is part of MOSAIC team

MOSAIC Support

Your MOSAIC advisor will provide the local support and resources you need before arriving in BC.

FAQ

How much do Planning for Canada’s services cost?

Our services are free of charge to eligible clients as we are funded by the Government of Canada. Please see the eligibility section above to find out if you meet the criteria to register.

Can Planning for Canada help me immigrate to Canada?

No. We do not provide immigration, application, or entry services. You may find these IRCC resources to be helpful:

  • Coming to Canada
  • Immigration and Citizenship Canada
  • Express Entry
I am planning to come to Canada as a temporary foreign worker or as an international student. Am I eligible for Planning for Canada’s services?

No. Temporary foreign workers and international students are not eligible for our program. Our pre-arrival services are available to economic and family-class immigrants who have been approved for permanent residency by the Government of Canada.

What can I expect from the in-Canada Advisor?

Your in-Canada Advisors will:

  • Respond to additional settlement questions regarding housing, schooling, education, language training, finances and more in your province and city/town of destination.
  • Further assess your employment needs and provide additional resources and options, including more detailed labour market information in the destination province and employer connections, as relevant.
  • Offer guidance for regulated occupations, including licensing process and referrals to regulatory bodies and/or exploring alternate career options.
  • Help you enroll in online bridging and mentoring programs, if available.
  • Provide e-learning tools/modules to help you build or enhance your existing skills.
  • Provide other referrals within your province and city of destination.
