About this Award

The Dr. Kes Chetty Education Award is an annual award presented to a MOSAIC client, immigrant, or refugee who wants to pursue academic or vocational studies. 

MOSAIC is proud to give this $1,000 award up to three deserving clients, immigrants, and refugees. MOSAIC staff nominate applicants based on financial need and their commitment to enriching the community.

Award Criteria

Nominations for this award are for MOSAIC clients or volunteers who:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to enriching the Canadian community 

  • Have a financial need (optional) 

  • Open to all ages

2023-2024 Recipients

Natalia Melnykova, Rema Estifanos Werede, and Sania Naqvi
  • Natalia holds a Master’s degree in Financial Accounting from the Ukrainian National University. She plans to pursue courses in Canadian bookkeeping and payroll fundamentals to achieve her goal of becoming a bookkeeper. This award will enable her to study Canadian accounting, helping her integrate into the local community and continue her passion for assisting others.
  • Rema, is a Grade 12 student at New Westminster Secondary School. Since arriving in Canada, she has excelled academically and volunteered extensively, she is preparing for a post-secondary education in nursing at Douglas College. Rema’s commitment to supporting other newcomer youth and her aspiration to become a nurse highlight her dedication to her community.
  • Sania, a Grade 12 student at Burnaby South Secondary School, plans to pursue a career in engineering at SFU. Since moving to Canada, Sania has been an active volunteer. With a passion for physics and math, she aspires to earn a master’s and Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, aiming to give back to the community as a leader and advocate for positive change.
