Women in Business Award

March 19, 2019

Ninu Kang, MOSAIC Director of Communications and Development, was presented with a Women in Business Award from the Surrey Board of Trade on March 13th. The announcement came during the 10th Annual Surrey Women in Business Awards luncheon in Surrey, which saw over 400 guests in attendance.

Winners were announced in five categories, including the Not-for-Profit Sector, for which Ninu Kang was recognized.

Kang is one of the leading authorities on addressing gender equality in the immigrant and refugee communities. During her 20+ years at MOSAIC, she has developed violence prevention programs for immigrant and refugee women and children who are culturally and linguistically sensitive. Along with her team, Ninu started the first men’s domestic violence treatment program for immigrants in Canada, which she helped expand across the country. She is one of the founding members of the Women’s Association and a founding member of the South Asian Community Coalition Against Youth Violence. She currently leads a group called Surrey Organizing Against Racism and Hate Network to facilitate dialogue to establish best practices, raise public awareness about racism and hate activities, and develop response strategies to address these incidents in Surrey.

Kang was nominated by CEO Olga Stachova, who said “We are thrilled that Ninu’s work in support of newcomers and activism against hate and racism were recognized by the business community”.
