An exciting new collaboration between Vancity and MOSAIC will support career and mentorship opportunities for newcomers.
Through a $61,500 grant from Vancity, MOSAIC’s SCOPE (Social and Civic Opportunities: Pathways to Equity) project will be able to deepen and expand programming for racialized newcomers seeking board positions over the next year.
“We are so excited by this partnership with Vancity, which will play a key role in supporting the career and leadership success of immigrants and refugees in our community,” said Mimoza Pachuku, SCOPE Program Coordinator.
The funding from Vancity will support the expansion of a number of initiatives including an Alumni Hub, mentorship, and the SCOPE iCan Network. The iCan Network will be a community of practice where project participants can connect, share leadership and job opportunities, brainstorm ideas for creating meaningful societal change, and learn ways to meaningfully participate in their communities.
“Vancity, like MOSAIC, is committed to helping newcomers feel supported as they transition to a new country,” said Diana Barry, Community Investment Associate at Vancity. “The SCOPE project is really important because immigrant and racialized voices matter and bring so much to our communities. We look forward to seeing the participants grow throughout the program.”
The second cohort of SCOPE participants recently started and more than 100 applications were received. Pachuku is looking forward to building on the positive progress that has already been made so far with the project.
