MOSAIC is pleased to announce that it has received a $25,000 donation from RBC Foundation in support of the Surrey Project for Refugee Families.
The cheque was presented by Carmen Ryujin, Manager, Cultural and Community Markets at RBC on Wednesday, Jan. 25th, along with Harinder Kaur Nahal and Charanjit Panasar from RBC’s Newton branch in Surrey.
Following the presentation RBC staff also had a chance to meet some of the newcomers and hear about their journeys to Canada and what it has been like to settle in a new country. Some also talked about their dreams and hopes for their new life here.
Sherman Chan, Director of Family and Settlement Services, said, “Thanks to RBC’s generous contribution, the Surrey Project for Refugee Families can continue to provide much-needed support to the many newcomer families that settle in and around the Surrey area. Refugees in particular are often in vulnerable positions as many have experienced trauma and adversity. This pilot project is a self-funded initiative that provides a range of unique programs that assists newcomer parents and their children and we are very grateful to RBC for their support of refugees and this program.”
The Surrey Project for Refugee Families provides services related to settlement, employment and language skills for refugee families. Clients who visit the centre will receive individual assessment and be provided with information and referrals for assistance. Adults, youth and children are all welcome.
