NuYu Forum Gives Youth Understanding of Cultural Diversity

December 5, 2017

On Saturday, December 2nd, MOSAIC’s NuYu forum, a gathering of newcomer youth in Canada, took place at MOSAIC’s Surrey Newcomers’ Centre.

Youth have been developing a creative performance and practicing their acting skills over the past several weeks. At the forum, they presented their journeys to an audience, allowing them to interactively participate in storytelling. Paired with delicious finger foods, a small photoshoot, and the program graduation, youth described the NuYu experience as one of a kind.

Youth walked away with many new friendships, an understanding of cultural diversity, and improved communication skills. Many commented that they are excited for the next NuYu event. Congratulations to forum facilitators Reyna and Ayan for their great work!

Through theatre exercises and games in MOSAIC’s NuYu program, participants gradually create scenes which reflect their personal life challenges. The program creates a space for youth to collectively come up with positive solutions to the challenges presented in the scenes by their peers. To learn more, please visit mosaicbc.org/nuyu.
