New Executive Board elected

MOSAIC’s Board of Directors has elected a new board executive for the coming year during the 2021 Annual General Meeting (AGM), which took place virtually on Wednesday, September 29.

“I am delighted to be joining the executive leadership of MOSAIC’s Board of Directors, and look forward to a dynamic and innovative year ahead,” said newly elected Board Chair Petra Kuret.

The new Board executive members are:

Petra Kuret, Board Chair – Petra Kuret is the Head of Partnerships at SkyHive and previously served as the Senior Vice President of Business Transformation at Vancity and the Managing Director of Accenture in British Columbia. She was recognized among the Top 100 Most Powerful Women in Canada in 2016 and 2017. Petra dedicates many hours to community organizations and has held leadership roles in the past with Minerva BC, BC Women’s Hospital, and BC Children’s Hospital. She is also trilingual.

Dr. Gillian Creese, Vice Chair – Gillian trained as a sociologist and has taught at the University of British Columbia since 1986, appointed as a professor in the Department of Sociology and in the Institute for Gender, Race, Sexuality and Social Justice. She has a long-standing association with MOSAIC, having served as a member of the MOSAIC Board of Directors from 1994 through 1999, including serving as Vice President from 1995 to 1997.

Alexander Cheong, Treasurer – Alex is an accounting and finance professional with more than 10 years of experience in public practice experience. He first joined MOSAIC’s Board of Directors in 2020, and is a Chartered Professional Accountant among a number of other professional designations. He currently serves as the Associate Director, Inspections, at the Canadian Public Accountability Board.

Serena Mawani Parbatani, Secretary – Serena is a manager at HSBC Bank Canada, focusing on acquisition and customer growth. A first generation Canadian, Serena attended the UBC Sauder School of Business where she obtained a Bachelor of Commerce, and most recently graduated from the MBA program at Simon Fraser University.

“We are incredibly thankful for the dedicated service of our previous Board executive – Dr. Christian Duff, Bark Kong, George Somerwill, and Barbara West. I am confident that our new executive will continue supporting MOSAIC’s vision of advancing an inclusive and thriving Canada,” said Olga Stachova, Chief Executive Officer of MOSAIC.
