MOSAIC was pleased to be a nominee at the 2014 Nesika Awards. Held in Vancouver on March 21 at Science World OMNIMAX Theatre, with over 400 people in attendance, the fifth annual provincial awards event proved that multiculturalism is flourishing in British Columbia. The Hon. Teresa Wat, Minister Responsible for Multiculturalism, handed out the awards.The annual event honours individuals and organizations that promote multiculturalism in B.C. Awards are given in five categories – Individual, Business, Organization, Youth and Multicultural Excellence in Government. The last category, given for the first time this year, recognizes the commitment of government organizations to promote multiculturalism, both internally and externally.MOSAIC was nominated for Excellence in Cultural Diversity. Executive Director Eyob Naizghi said: “We’re honoured to have been included among the nominees, who all contribute so much to the communities they serve. We extend our congratulations to the very deserving award recipients.”The provincial Nesika Awards, started in 2008, recognizes individuals, organizations and businesses whose exceptional work helps bring our diverse cultures together. The Province’s Multicultural Advisory Council organizes and sponsors the awards to celebrate British Columbia’s cultural diversity and Aboriginal heritage.
