Job Seekers at a recent MOSAIC-sponsored Networking Event heard that looking for work is a job in itself.Four former clients of MOSAIC’s Vancouver Northeast Employment Services Centre told current job seekers how they were successful in finding work. They each made a presentation and then answered questions and shared more tips informally. MOSAIC staff also participated in the networking portion of the event.Dijana Ivanovic was one of the individuals who shared her success story. She described how she worked at job searching every day for six months. She would come to the MOSAIC Resource Centre in the morning to apply for jobs and prepare for interviews. She attended workshops, met with her Case Manager and Recruitment Specialist and stayed positive. She is now employed as an Administrative Assistant. She waited two month before she was called for an interview for the job, but she didn’t give up. Her employer told her she was selected from 150 candidates! The other speakers found jobs as a Lab Research Technician, a Settlement Worker and a Sales Associate.More than 20 job seekers attended the event. They all found it very useful, and fun, too. One of them said the speakers “really inspired me to move forward and be prepared for the job hunt.” She learned from the speakers to be patient, confident, dedicated and well-prepared for interviews.Everyone came away with the event also understanding the importance of networking to a successful job search. Participants were also given a Labour Market and Job Fair Information package.
