On Monday, January 13, 2019, MOSAIC staff, members from community organizations, and faculty from educational institutions in B.C., gathered at MOSAIC HQ to launch PEER CAFES – Peer Creating Awareness to Facilitate Education and Support Initiative.
PEER CAFES addresses the issue of sexual assault and its impact on international students in Canada. The objective of this initiative is to increase international students’ safety in Canada and provide them with information about reporting/disclosing and how to access wrap around support services such as those provided by MOSAIC.
At the launch, folks were introduced to the initiative through a presentation explaining the need and demand for the work around international students. Attendees also enjoyed browsing the resource table, which included an International Student Safety Guide, posters about consent, fact sheets, and other resources. As well as indulging in food, drinks, and cake!
Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this event and initiative. We hope this work continues to grow in order to create safer spaces for international students in Canada.
