Meet the team – Violence Prevention Programs

Do you know that MOSAIC offers a number of violence prevention programs and services for women and newcomer families?

As we begin 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence and mark International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, here’s more about the dedicated staff that make up MOSAIC’s Violence Prevention team:

Ashlin Zargar

Ashlin Zargar, Manager – Violence Prevention Programs

As a program manager, Ashlin oversees the planning, implementation, delegation and evaluation of violence prevention programs that are tailored to the needs of women and newcomer families who have been impacted by or at the risk of experiencing violence/crime. As well, Ashlin supports her team members in delivering services professionally and efficiently, while ensuring the team’s wellbeing. Collaborating with various departments at MOSAIC, different community organizations and stakeholders to expand the reach of the program is also an essential part of Ashlin’s work.

Natalya Falkinham

Natalya Falkinham, Multicultural Outreach Worker & Women’s Support Group Co-Facilitator

As a Multicultural Outreach Worker, Natalya helps to provide services for adult newcomer women who have experienced or are at risk of abuse, threats, or violence in an intimate relationship, including historical sexual abuse and sexual assault. This includes intake, risk assessment and safety planning, resource information and referrals, practical assistance with accessing legal information, housing and income assistance, and more.

Maggie Mak

Maggie Mak, Stopping the Violence Counsellor & Women’s Support Group Lead

As a Stopping the Violence Counsellor, Maggie provides free, confidential, and client-centred counselling support to women who have experienced, or are at risk of abuse, threats, or violence in an intimate relationship, sexual assault or childhood abuse. Maggie also provides the Women’s Support Group with practical skills in setting boundaries, effective communication skills, and more.

Shivani Raheja

Shivani Raheja, Coordinator and  Enhanced Settlement Support Worker, Gender-Based Enhanced Settlement Program and International Students Project

As the Coordinator & Enhanced Settlement Support worker, Shivani provides culturally aware and trauma-informed support services for international students to raise their awareness of gender based and sexual violence, and enhance their access to direct support, safety, crisis intervention and resources for survivors/victims of violence and crime. Shivani also provides settlement support services to newcomer families to strengthen healthy relationships during their settlement and integration process.

Huong Truong

Huong Truong, Multicultural Victim Services Worker

As a Multicultural Victim Services Worker, Huong provides free and confidential services, emotional support, practical assistance, justice-related information, court reparation, accompaniments, advocacy, and referrals. Huong also assists with safety planning and filling out forms such as Victim Impact Statements, CVAP (Crime Victim Assistance Program), and other necessary forms. Service is available in Vietnamese, English.
