This is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. On March 21st, events are being held around the world to commemorate the anniversary of the 1960 Sharpeville Massacre in South Africa when police opened fire on hundreds of people protesting against apartheid.Locally, the Community March Against Racism will take place on Commercial Drive. The parade begins at 1:00 p.m., Saturday March 21st at Clark Park, located at Commercial and 14th Avenue. Banners featuring colourful handprints of supporters for the campaign “Raising Hands Against Racism” will be carried in the march which ends at Grandview Park at Commercial Drive and Charles Street.Please join us – it is expected to be sunny and warm!
