September 26, 2017

MOSAIC’s 2017 Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held on September 21st at MOSAIC’s new head office at 5575 Boundary Rd. With the move to the larger facility, MOSAIC was able to host its AGM at its own facility for the first time in the organization’s 40-year history.

After approval of the 2016 AGM minutes, Eyob Naizghi provided his Executive Director’s Report and updates on the strategic plan. Board Chairperson Dr. Mehran Kiai provided a report from the board and stated that in 2016/17 MOSAIC managed a $22 million budget. With more than 310 staff, 450 volunteers and 270 contractors, Dr. Kiai paid tribute to our people, saying “These talented, diverse and dedicated people support clients through interpretation, translation, English language training, employment programs, community outreach, and multilingual and multicultural services for family, children, youth and seniors.”

Chris Duff, Treasurer, presented the 2016/2017 audited financial statements and noted that MOSAIC is in an excellent financial position holding over $9 million in assets. Following two special resolutions (revised constitution and bylaws, extension of board members’ terms), the nominations and approvals were held for the 2017/18 board, which welcomed new members Barbara West, Gillian Creese, Fred Milowsky and Kanya Adam.

Keynote speaker Karimah Es Sabar was impassioned and inspiring as she shared her life journey and reflected on the challenges and opportunities for excellence in Canada. Ms. Es Sabar is an accomplished Canadian life sciences leader with extensive global exposure and a passion for volunteerism.
