MOSAIC partnered with several UBC departments and community groups to organize the second annual refugee and migration symposium. The “After the Flight: Community-University Refugee and Migration Symposium” was held to help reframe the public discourse around refugees and migrants by bringing new research and conversations to:
- Discuss settlement and integration in our communities and places of learning
- Showcase responsible, community engaged research practices
- Showcase unique community-university research collaborations that address settlement and integration issues.
This year’s program, from Oct. 11 – 19, featured panel presentations on Private Sponsorship of Refugees, Community Approaches to Healing, and Economic Contributions of Newcomers, a career night, a “responsible research” workshop, a conversation on media representations, and a film screening of “Constance on the Edge” to explore the dynamics of refugee and immigrant settlement and integration.
